Even with the 1592cc engine and steel rims, my Series II Alpine has given a good account of itself on the Anti-Football Run and lots of other vintage road rallies, including the California Melee. I'm biased, but I think the Alpine is a fantastic choice for road rallies-- fun, relatively comfortable, and easy to tinker with.

Have you really gotten this far in a road rally project without adding rally lights? My Sunbeam got its fat Lucas lights before I bothered to rebuild the worn-out lever shocks.

Santa brought me a nice digital measuring caliper, which won't make me a more talented mechanic, but will at least keep me from having to do fractions in my head. Thanks, Dad!

Some would call the 250SE the one to have, since it's got the same interior as the earlier 220SEs (check out the wooden binnacle holding the speedo and tach) with the added benefit of 300 extra ccs, a stronger injection pump and seven main bearings instead of four.
When I build a time machine, I'm going to go back to 1966 and order a 250SE coupe with the ultra-rare ZF 5-speed.

Monsieur Redele is disgusted by the cars of Perfidious Albion to his west and the degenerate wastrels to his southeast, and presents to you the Quatre Chevaux:
