"I used poor word choice." Can we get that made into a badge or a business card in case of an emergency? It worked so well for Don Imus. Oh wait...

There's probably still the same amount of needles(unknown talented artists), it's just that the haystack is much bigger than it used to be, and I don't have as much interest in finding one of those artists as I used to. I have a small recording studio in my house that cost around $5,000. It would have cost 20 times as much during the 60's and 70's. So more people have better, cheaper equipment, that can make more professional sounding recordings but maybe don't have the quality songs or talent to go with it. These songs can now be heard around the world with the click of a mouse on the internet. There's your bigger haystack. During the 70's I bought tickets, stood in long lines and saw bands like Pink Floyd, ZZ Top and Genesis. It was an event for me and my friends. It's the only way we used to be able to see them. Now there's videos on YouTube and elsewhere for just about every band. It's taken the mystery out of the whole thing. Or maybe it's just sobriety and getting older.

Big Hollywood : Everybody Lay Off Dave Konig!

Coming soon...."Everybody Lay Off Gary Graham" "I like him. He’s nice guy (or so I’ve heard). If you’re irritated at him defending Dave Konig who defended Tom Shillue who defended Janeane Garofalo, you’re just going to have to take my word for it. (Or at least the guy’s word who told me Graham was a nice guy.)" etc. etc.

Big Hollywood : Everybody Lay Off Tom Shillue!

Enjoyed reading both columns but the Tom/Dave tag-team match doesn't seem to be working out here on Big Hollywood. The use of stereotyping by way of terms like "racist," "bigot," and "hater" is just another way of telling someone to shut up. Since there's no way to respond to those words in a way that will educate that person and resolve the conflict, both Tom and Dave have a point. However, most of us conservative types are tired of holding our mud or even having that suggested to us. It's good for the soul to vent at times(the Bible says to "be angry but sin not") but accomplishes little that is constructive. Both sides have a point. The Janeane Garafolo dartboard will have to do until I can think of something better.

Big Hollywood : Fleetwood Mac: A Huge Surprise

While I prefer early Fleetwood Mac, with Peter Green(Albatross, Black Magic Woman, Oh Well), and Danny Kirwan(Bare Trees, Future Games), I do enjoy Buckingham's guitar work. One of the odd things about his playing is that, unlike most rock guitarists, he doesn't use a pick. As a guitarist myself, I can tell you that's not easy to do on an electric.

Big Hollywood : Everybody Lay off Janeane!

Some comments are acceptable on a stage or on HBO when performing comedy. But when making those same comments on a news show, which gives her an air of legitimacy, then she leaves herself open to criticism, and rightfully so. Ann Coulter doesn't get a pass, why should Janeane Garofalo? Here's the thing, if you don't want to be criticized then don't say or write anything. If you go ahead and do it anyway, then don't complain when others voice their opposition.

Big Hollywood : U2 Tours This Summer, Which Bono Will Show Up?

God bless them for sticking around and continually making an attempt to reinvent themselves; sometimes successfully, sometimes not. At least they didn't die from drug overdoses or end up on some insipid reality show. I live with a U2 fanatic, my 18-year old son. For his graduation present he has decided to go to Ireland. Why? Because that's where U2 lives. I pointed out that they might not be there at the end of June. He doesn't care. Just to walk the same streets as them is enough. That's the passion of youth that some of us lose as as we get older. Maybe that's what's happened to Bono. If true, he's not alone and it's nothing to apologize for.

Big Hollywood : The Joker Had It Right: Why So Serious?

Voted for Bush in both elections due to the alternatives: Gore and Kerry? Are you kidding me? That being said, I'm not a big fan of the job he did, other than on national security. I can understand the criticism as long as it doesn't devolve into childish name calling. One thing I can say for the man, he conducted himself like a gentleman and still does. Dennis Miller recently suggested that Obama start smoking during the press conferences. That would be cool.

Big Hollywood : Public Radio: Easter Scrooge

"I wish the churches would emphasize more the kindness" Yeah, why do we have to hear about sin, hell, damnation, and judgment? What's wrong with these people, Rowan? "Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed"--Psalm 85:10 Because you can't have mercy and peace without truth, righteousness, and justice. They're all flip sides of the same coin. But if you even mention the tough, adult parts like obedience, sacrifice, and accountability; then you're a "hater," a "bigot" or a "fanatic." The world is supposed to hate Christians. Why is anyone surprised? What's surprising is that it took this long to surface here in America. I'm guessing that Rowan doesn't hate anyone. But hate doesn't always come at you with profanity and threats. Sometimes it comes disguised as a polite, smiling interviewer or an angel of light.

Big Hollywood : Weakness is Provocative

Guess Obama changed Teddy Roosevelt's motto to: "Speak softly and bring some flowers, chocolates, and a heartfelt apology." Some view humility not as a strength but as a weakness.
Big Hollywood : American Islam?

John 10:10 tells us that "the thief(devil) comes but to steal, kill, and destroy." That identifies the source of someone's thinking and actions, no matter what religion they claim to be. Those types of individuals can be found in all religions including mine, Christianity. There are scriptures in the Old Testament that have striking similarities to portions of the Koran. The Bible is a mirror of the heart, as I assume other holy books are. A person can find permission there to justify however they want to live their life. To "love others as you love yourself" seems to be the best course of action because we know that the source is God. Unfortunately not everyone is drawing from that source.

Big Hollywood : Our Exceptionalism Comes From Our Constitution

Well said! As one who was born in a foreign country and is a naturalized citizen, I have an extra appreciation for America and its Constitution. I'm grateful to live here. The winds of change are blowing and globalism is in the air. To be a patriot these days is to stand in the way of that and be labeled as archaic or worse. How long before standing with hand over heart while singing the 'Star Spangled Banner' at a ball game will be challenged by the ACLU? "O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave"
