Yeah. It definitely hurts the reputation. In many ways, it's the same with the remake of the Twilight Zone, those were not worthy of the name.

The rival was really bad with the cynicism. They seemed to end every episode with a twist where no matter what the protagonist chose, they chose wrong.

I know. And as I watched it, I kept thinking, "They thought this was a good idea? Why?" It's clear to me that Lucas never really grasped what made some of the other sword fights in film so memorable. Compare this with the Princess Bride sword fights or even the Obi-Wan/Vader fight in Star Wars and how much more impact they have.

I think it would be an entirely different episode today. The left now realizes that they can't advocate dictatorship directly, but they can advocate "good" big government. So Gil would have tried to create a "council of the wise" or some garbage like that. And of course, it would have worked until some evil business man (or religious figure) came along to abuse the good council.

I "love" the ending though, how they throw cliches at each other for like 20 minutes and then have a 40 minute completely uninteresting lightsaber fight until the CGI budget ran out. Good times.

I totally agree. They have some of the most insightful reviews I've ever seen. It's very impressive. Even their quick reviews make really good points about why films work or don't and what kinds of audiences would like them. Big thumbs up to RLM!

I think that's right. Also, I think many of the writers wanted to address modern concerns and that's hard to do when you place yourself in a world that is so completely different from the present. So they just sort of skipped the utopianism.
