However the ways of marketing ourselves have grown and become more dominant because of the amount of artists in our own personal space now. Where you may have been the one, or perhaps a couple of you, all vying for work in the old days, now there are thousands. I agree with your post in many ways. Yes, you are right about specialising too. I used to specialise in glass engravings of motorbikes and buildings I got bored with those and now am into oil paintings of horses so yes, I have changed quite drastically.. I think that, because of the www, people are drawn in more to trying different things but, I also believe that we all drift off into a specialist area that we enjoy the most. For instance, I can sculpt, draw, paint, and work digital magic in programmes BUT I have now realised that I am happiest painting horses so am going to specialise in that area. If I get the urge I will draw and do digital but my main work will be..... I think this will happen to more and more people as they find their feet. It is the learning new things that is the greatest thrill, once mastered they may fall by the wayside.
