Really?

I love your description of very old champions like Jimmy Connors. It's a true contribution to the debate. I actually love this never-ending debate, however it seems to me important that emotions shoud not enter into account. For instance you can't blame Lendl for not being sympathetic. Or praise Edberg just for being fair play. You can't neither say that some periods were less competitive than others.. Tennis has always been popular enough to impose a great competition. Isn't Murray as a great champion as was Vitas Gerulaitis or Guillermo Vilas ? Facts and performance must lead the way. Then comes the discussion... What is more important ? The number of grand Slams ? The number of tournaments won ? The ranking ... etc... Can't players before the Open Era get a fair comparaison with recent players (especially those who were over both periods) ? Should the very ancient Davis Cup count ? Should the Olympics be part of this crazy calculation ? Come on folks, suggest a proper ranking ! When the last drop of oil is purchased from the Middle East, our political interests will shift to the next greatest producing nation. We'll be involved in a skirmish every few years with whichever nation that happens to be just to scare oil prices up. Finally when every other country runs out, we'll be left standing with a monopoly on energy. You'll never again see a US president standing in a picture next to some guy wearing his laundry on his head.

Andy - Meet the Average American (Financial) Family

Shock value perhaps and pulls several crucial family finanace's to one snap shot (retirement, saving, debt, cash flow). I do believe that most American have spent more time reiewing a menu while eating out this past week - and most weeks - than reviewing their finances. It's an old saw that (most) Americans will spend more time shopping for a shirt than their finances. This graff does decently show the lack of planning and responsibility of many fellow Americans.

MattTeeJay - Tiger Woods Won’t Win 19 Majors

This is fascinating to read a couple years later... The same still applies. He finally breaks his win streak but is beginning to hit a stride in absolutely falling apart in most the Majors he's contended in since his hiatus & subsequent swing change. He does not have 5 more major wins in him at this point. I question whether he even has 1 or 2 in him at all. His read on greens & putting stroke is nothing like it used to be. At the Masters this year, he literally forgot his golf swing, hosel-rocketing his 9 iron all but OOB on the final Par-3 of the course. He's had to change everything to keep up with his ailing body, even though he 'looks' normal, his swing & ESPECIALLY his mentality is nothing like it used to be. Tiger was a great golfer... likely to be considered the 2nd greatest to ever play the game. But Jack's record will never be broken. There. I said it.

Actually, nothing even remotely close to what we got then. The dams and reservoirs give us a false feeling of safety. I would hate to be around to witness how they perform in a storm as big as the 1862 event given the floods we have had in the past 50 years with rainfall a fraction of what was seen 150 years ago. Scary thought.

Dave - Americans Have No Idea About Wealth Inequality in America

If you inserted those demographics in for rich people, the income ratios would drastically change; you can't compare them that way on this scale. Nobody's discriminating against rich people in this study; it's simply showing American's perceptions of wealth distribution, the reality, and their ideals. Obviously their ideals far exceed what they think and drastically exceed the reality. The rich and powerful have funneled the money more and more to themselves from the common man, and it's created the two-income household and has been drawing us closer and closer to a slave state. We really have been getting the wool pulled over our eyes for the last several decades and we need to fight for our incomes and make the rich give back to the community that feeds them.
