Vintage - The Systemic Anomaly

the possibility of a parallel universe ( or several at various levels of existence and evolutionary stages) which is laying down the trajectories of each human action and actually denies humans certain dimensions and programs us to act towards a pre-set purpose is what interests me. its just like a 2 dimensional computer game, say Mario. if we would programme mario to perceive the dimensions we do, then he would no longer be the agent but become the anomaly because now, he has a purpose higher than saving the princess. he now knows what he didn't earlier...that there are beings (whether programs or not) controlling his moves, shaping his path ahead. cyclical degeneration and renaissance of life itself vis a vis rise and fall of civilizations. brilliant movie utilizing the game theory. btw, if anyone here is a matrix fan, he should try Ghost in the Shell, the manga that inspired the matrix. peace

I also worked in 1 to 1 marketing and referenced Peppers and Rogers quite a bit. Then moved to CRM about 10 years ago. But I am still skeptical about how useful social CRM really is. OK, you can use LinkedIn or Facebook to see what someone's favorite topics are. But beyond that, I haven't found a lot of B2B value for social CRM. Currently, most CRM software systems simply give a Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn link. Do you have ideas as to other uses for social CRM for a typical user?

Paul - Open: The Ultimate Buzzword

Great post, finally someone calling out the BS. Another dimension for you. If you read Clayton Christensen's work, the open (i mean modular) vs closed (i mean vertically integrated) :-) question is all about market timing... when you are the disruptor, your product performance is substandard for the majority but 'good enough' for the early adoptors.... to address this performance gap you go closed vertically integrated so you can control all the elements ... Then when you get past performance hurdle customers want flexibility and speed and stuff... thats when you go open ...

Also, Geoff Moore has some useful distinctions, e.g. inside-proprietary-but-you-are-free-to-connect-to-it vs. may-change-insides.

delynator - Open: The Ultimate Buzzword

Great post. I agree completely on the descriptor "open" in danger of being overhyped and losing meaning. I think @kevinmarks said it best after the Apple earnings call yesterday when he checked Jobs on his use of the term open: "You keep using this word. I do not think it means what you think it means." http://twitter.com/#!/kevinmarks/status/277856368... One minor point on "closed" APIs versus "open" APIs -- yes, closed, non-public APIs do exist and many existed within companies as web services well before they were opened up to third parties. Most companies that offer an API platform of scale have many private and semi-private APIs, many of which are their highest volume APIs by consumption. These APIs are "closed" APIs because they are not "open" to developers outside the walls of the company or pre-approved partners.

Mike - Open: The Ultimate Buzzword

Open is a necessary descriptor from a marketing sense. But, absolutely, people should be forced to describe what they mean by open -- there are so many flavors of open that it means something different to everyone...although that's what makes it such a good word and not a buzzword: because open really is good no matter what it looks like.

sophiabliu - Defrag Keynote: Alex Wright

Wow this is very interesting mainly because this is something I've been mentioning to people since it relates to my dissertation research (http://sophiabliu.com/Dissertation.html). My research investigates the cultural heritage emerging from the use of information and communication technology (ICT) and particularly social media in times of crisis. I am interested in the kind of information being shared to strengthen people's resilience to future crises. In many tribal communities like in the Simeulue Island, they used oral traditions (Smong in this case) to pass on the knowledge of how to survive from natural hazards like a tsunami. I hope we will harness ICTs and the cyberinfrastructure more broadly to share this kind of information to strengthen our resilience.
