The fact is those in power like to agitate people in order to ensure the perpetuation of their own power. As such, they will get us all roiled up about a potential terrorist attack: the people need to be protected from those nasty "furriners!" At the same time, they alternately demonize and deride Occupy Wall Street: the people need to be protected from "un-American" ideas! What the powers-that-be do NOT want is exposure of their tactics. Hence, mainstream media colludes with the neocon and neoliberal 1%. This is not the first time in history that it's happened. In the late 18th century, Prime Minister William Pitt the Younger, who started off as a "reformer," was quick to turn on his heels when the French Revolution broke out. British aristos were worried, very worried! So anyone who supported the principles of "liberte, egalite, fraternite" was a potential traitor, liable to join the French Jacobins and overthrow the British government. (Hence, the sentencing of Thomas Paine for publishing Rights of Man.) Habeas corpus was suspended and political organizations for reform prohibited. In short, what his administration wanted to do was suppress dissent altogether and gratify their 1%. We have the same crap today served up by our own 1%ers--"don't you dare question our power!" That's why it's imperative for all of us to expose the BS that they are imposing on us.

Agreed. In the meantime, Gingrich has been making noises about running as an Indy--even better! Nothing more satisfying than the prospect of a GOP imploding before our very eyes. (This is what I'm praying for as I am extremely loathe to vote for Obama: been betrayed way too many times especially with his slashing of benefits for the most vulnerable, not to mention his recent signing of the NDAA.)

So register as Republican, vote in the primary for someone with a strong record of voting for liberty and against war, and then change your registration back to whatever you want. Just because the right-wing talk show hosts have been bought and paid for (Bain Capital owns a huge chunk of ClearChannel which in turn "owns" darned near every conservative talk show) doesn't mean Romney has to win the Republican nomination. Thank the gods for that!

All these things he's only done reluctantly and because he was forced to by the political climate of the day. I see far more positives on his record than negatives. A second Obama term will see many more positives and perhaps even some corrections of the items on your list. I don't see him as the lesser of two evils - I see him as the best President since LBJ, and perhaps even the best since FDR. I'm voting for him in the fall, and still proud of voting for him in '08.
