Thomas S - Flattening The Stack

Thanks for the post Mark. Having developed for iPhone, BB and Wimo I can now say that android is by far the most annoying platform to dev for. The limitation on views is crazy they are limiting the applications scope and usability by causing the developer to constantly worry about depth and stack overflow issues. 2 Days wasted!

James Bailey - G1, Tasty Treats, and Constraint-Based Engineering

This article is dead on. Just because the current iteration of the firmware is probably targeted to a particular ROM image size. Once you fit, you can stop optimizing size since there is no further benefit. I once update a 5 year old surround sound processor to double the program presets after the firmware EEPROM was filled to its limit. The original developers were sure it was going to be a difficult task but it was surprisingly easy. Each preset was essentially a stand-alone DSP program that was loaded to create a new effect. I just created a new program loader that unzipped a compressed file. It never occurred to the original developers to compress the DSP code. When I was done there was more than enough room for even the less important enhancements. P.S. The updating page makes it very difficult to post comments. It is pretty obvious that someone wasn't thinking when they did the auto page refresh.

Oh, your post forgot to mention: it doesn't come with sensors either. It's worth than most of the smartphones out there. :(

Anyway, I'm still excited by Dell making an Android phone. It's been about 3 (?) years since that old, old rumor kicked off... and I remember googling all over the internet looking for articles about "Dell's phone". Here's for a more serious, US Dell phone with Tegra and a qwerty :)
